Whether you love black bean burgers already, or are wanting to try them out, or want to have a unique dish to take to a gathering, then Black Bean Burger Sliders are the way to go!
When done right, black bean burgers can have a great smoky flavor similar to that of ground beef burgers. The key is that you want it to be juicy, but not mushy. This involves the right balance of WET ingredients (egg, barbecue sauce) to DRY ingredients (flour). So far for me, I like to use 2 eggs, 2 tablespoons of barbecue sauce, and 1 & 1/2 cups of Oat Flour
While the list of ingredients can be lengthy, odds are you probably have most of them in your kitchen already. Also, as you go thru the process of making the black bean burger mix, you'll see that it has some similarities with mixing and forming cookies....
Pro tip: to elevate this dish to a higher level - after cooking the black bean burger patties, grab the buns & sliced cheese, assemble the sliders and bake in your oven for 5 minutes. They'll be nice and crisp!
Does this have to be served immediately after cooking? Or can this dish be kept & keep warm for a while to serve after cooking?
This dish can do either! If you wrap each Black Bean Burger Slider in aluminum foil and place into an insulated container, the sliders can be kept warm for a few hours. Helpful when taking to a tailgate party after a Saturday morning long run!
Can any of this be prepped ahead of time? (say, the night before a Saturday morning long run)?
Yes! A great way to prep this dish ahead of time is to make the black bean burger mix, form it into patties, lay them out on a parchment paper lined tray and then place the tray into the refrigerator overnight. That way the next day, all you have to do is pull the tray out of the refrigerator, fry the patties on a stove top skillet, and assemble the sliders.
